What is a WGH Chapter?
WGH Ethiopia was officially launched in 2023 by a dedicated group of women’s health professionals from diverse backgrounds and at various stages of their careers. By empowering women and ensuring their equal representation in decision-making roles, we can build a stronger, more equitable, and effective health system.
Each chapter operates autonomously within its local context while remaining connected to the broader WGH movement. Through policy advocacy, capacity-building initiatives, and research & data collection, chapter members strive to address systemic barriers and promote inclusivity, diversity, and gender-responsive approaches in health policies and practices.
Challenging power and privilege for gender equity in health
Our Approach
WGH Ethiopia employs a multi-pronged approach to achieve its goals. We focus on:
Policy Advocacy: Championing policies and practices that promote gender equality in the health workforce
Research and Evidence: Generating and disseminating data to highlight the importance of women’s leadership in health
Collaboration and Partnership: Working with government bodies, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to drive collective action in building a strong and supportive community of women’s health professionals and their allies
Networking and Mentorship: Creating opportunities for women at all career levels to connect, learn, and grow
Our Connection to the Global Movement
WGH Ethiopia is proud to be part of the global Women in Global Health movement, which has a presence in over 50 countries. This global network provides us with a platform to share best practices, learn from the experiences of others, and contribute to the worldwide conversations on gender equity in health.
